Grand Island, Neb. - A man has been arrested and is currently in jail after allegedly attempting to kill a 16-year-old.
The incident occurred in Grand Island, where the police responded to a disturbance call in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to the police, the altercation took place in a garage between the suspect, Panom Keolavone, and the teenager. The teenager retreated to the basement and barricaded himself behind a bedroom door.
Keolavone then reportedly grabbed a screwdriver and threatened to kill the teenager. He left the home briefly but returned and kicked the door where the teenager was hiding. Keolavone allegedly placed the teenager in a headlock until the boy lost consciousness.
Witnesses intervened and were able to free the teenager, who sustained injuries to his face, body, and neck, including petechial hemorrhaging in both of his eyes, according to a news release.
Keolavone has been arrested and is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder in the first degree, attempted assault in the first degree, attempted assault in the second degree, use of a weapon to commit a felony, assault by strangulation, making terroristic threats, and child abuse with intent but no injury.
