(Columbus, Neb.) - Theresa Grape, the newly appointed Director of the Columbus Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), is determined to raise awareness about the array of events and attractions available in the community.
Originally from Albion, Grape relocated to Columbus in 2000 and is a devoted wife and mother of four sons and two stepdaughters. While her academic background lies in management, her expertise lies in marketing.

Grape's professional journey has included over a decade at The Columbus Telegram, followed by positions at Cornhusker Public Power District, Behlen Mfg. Co., and Columbus Community Hospital. It was the allure of tourism and event planning that drew her to the CVB director role.
"At Behlen, I had the opportunity to coordinate major events," Grape explained. "This experience sparked my interest in focusing on Platte County and attracting visitors to our region."
Grape assumed her role on June 22 and is currently supported by an intern until July 26.
District 1 Supervisor John Harms, who serves as the CVB liaison, expressed his enthusiasm about Grape's appointment. "I'm excited to have Theresa as the new CVB director!" he exclaimed. "She possesses the necessary skill set, passion, and drive to promote Platte County and showcase all that we have to offer."
Reflecting on her early days in the position, Grape acknowledged the substantial responsibility she has inherited following Katy McNeil's departure. Nevertheless, she expressed her excitement for the learning process and the new experiences that come with the role.
Regarding the CVB's mission, Grape emphasized the goal of increasing occupancy rates in local accommodations. "We collaborate with hotels and the community to attract visitors to our area," she explained. "The forthcoming Columbus Fieldhouse, set to become a vital part of our community, will significantly contribute to hosting sporting events and further expanding our lodging options. Our aim is to draw people to Platte County and Columbus."
The Columbus Fieldhouse, led by the hospital, is anticipated to consolidate fitness, wellness, and rehabilitation services in one facility. Among the features are an elevated walking/running track, a full-sized soccer field, a jump zone, a gaming room, batting cages, and golf simulators.
Grape's vision for the CVB extends beyond promoting accommodations. She aspires to create awareness about the community's diverse events and attractions. The CVB achieves this through online event promotion and its Something Good smartphone app.
"People often underestimate the variety of activities happening in Columbus and the neighboring communities," Grape noted. "There are numerous opportunities available, but our challenge lies in effectively disseminating this information to the public."
